15 Reasons Why Exercise is Vital to Healing Your Pain

Exercise and proper nutrition should be at the core of your program for pain relief. Need some reasons to get going? Here are 15!

1. One hour of walking activates fat-burning enzymes for 12 hours. A morning and afternoon walk will keep these enzymes active round the clock and clear cholesterol deposits in the arterial system.

2. Exercise encourages the body to burn stored fat and excess amino acids that can cause a decrease in other essential amino acids, such as tryptophan and tyrosine, that are needed by the brain to make neurotransmitters that affect mood, regulate blood sugar levels and blood pressure, and control coordination.

3. Leg muscles act as secondary hearts. As they move, their contractions and relaxations pump blood against gravity back to the heart. Leg muscles also act as a pump for the lymphatic system and relieve edema.

4. Unexercised muscle is broken down, and in excretion you will also lose reserves of zinc and B6, which can result in certain mental disorders and neurological complications, such as pyroluria and autoimmune disorders such as lupus and muscular dystrophy.

5. Exercise increases the production of natural “feel good” opiates of the body such as endorphins and enkephalins, which can help drug addicts to reduce abuse of synthetic forms of these substances.

6. Exercise prevents hypertension and normalizes blood pressure.

7. Exercise builds muscle mass and prevents muscles from being broken down and used as fuel.

8. Exercise protects the lining of blood vessel walls.

9. Exercise lowers blood sugar levels in diabetics and decreases their need for insulin or medication.

10. Exercise forces the liver to convert stored fat into sugar.

11. Exercise causes an increase in joint mobility and forces water into joint cavities, bringing nutrients to the cells inside the cartilage and lubricating the bone-on-bone movements of joints.

12. Exercise strengthens the bones and prevents osteoporosis.

13. Exercise increases production of all vital hormones, enhancing libido and sexual performance.

14. Exercise prevents asthma attacks and allergic reactions, providing the body is fully hydrated, by activating adrenaline, which in turn reduces the over-secretion of histamine.

15. Vigorous exercise helps your body excrete toxins. Your skin converts some chemical toxins, drugs, and steroid hormones into a water-soluble form, which can then be eliminated through sweat. Because sweat is nearly identical in content to urine, containing water, lactic acid and uric acid, it is sometimes called the “third kidney”. Up to 30% of body wastes can be eliminated through the skin!

Exercise is the closest thing to a “magic bullet” for managing your pain, maintaining your youth and supporting optimal health. Find something you enjoy doing, start out slowly, listen to your body, and gradually build up the intensity and duration of your workout. Enjoy!
