Water is Essential, but Which Kind? Tap, Bottled, Distilled, Filtered?
Water is essential to life. What kind of water you drink is too important to simply take for granted. Aging is a function of cellular water loss, and dehydration is a root cause of many kinds of “diseases” and pain. It is estimated up to 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated! But which kind of water is best for relieving pain and restoring health? Let’s look at some options.
Tap water
Tap water may legally contain up to 90 allowable chemicals. It contains chlorine that breaks down to form chloroform, which has been linked to bladder, breast and other cancers. Think about it… chlorine is used to kill bacteria in the water, but it also kills healthy bacteria in your gut! Aluminum, used to give water its sparkle, has been linked to many illnesses, including Alzheimer’s disease. Acid water leaches copper and other metals from the pipes as it runs through them. Tap water’s oxidation reduction potential (ORP) typically falls around +400 to +500 mV, which means that it contributes unstable oxygen molecules called “free radicals” that steal electrons from other molecules in the body. Too many free radicals can damage healthy tissues.
Bottled water
Billions of plastic water bottles end up in the trash every year, and 90% end up in landfills. We use over 250 million barrels of oil annually to produce the plastic bottles. A 1-liter bottle of Fiji Water contaminates 6.74 liters of water to stretch-blow the plastic bottle, and produces 250g of greenhouse emissions for each bottle imported to the United States!Nearly half of the bottle water companies use municipal tap water; some even use water more contaminated than municipal water. Nearly all bottled waters are acidic (meaning it is bad for your health.) Plastic bottles can leach dioxin, a known carcinogen, into your water.

Carbon Filters
A simple carbon water filter is the first step to purer water. I had my water tested last year, and the level of chlorine from my kitchen faucet was equal to what you’d find in a swimming pool! As a first-line defense, I installed a whole-house carbon filter that cleans all the water used in my home. I consider this an important protection for my family from chlorine gas given off when we shower or wash clothes or dishes. You can also purchase faucet filters that fit on or sit next to your kitchen faucet, and in-line carbon filters to filter drinking water and ice for your refrigerator. They are easy to install, relatively inexpensive, and filter out most deadly contaminants, cryptosporidium and giardia. Beneficial minerals in the water can still pass through the filter, which is important for your health.
Distilled Water
Distillation rids water of all impurities, but also all its healthful minerals. Distilled water also is acidic, which is not good for your body.
Reverse Osmosis Filters
Some families upgrade to reverse osmosis filters. This process draws water through an extremely fine membrane that filters contaminants by osmotic pressure. Like distilled water, the minerals are also eliminated. Mineral free water tends to dissolve substances with which it comes in contact, including oxygen (making the water acidic) and metals. The Japanese, who have pioneered water purification systems, call reverse osmosis water “Dead Water”.
Ultra Violet Radiation Systems
UV systems use high frequency light to irradiate water through a glass element, thereby killing all living organisms. This makes an excellent sterilizing system, but it is difficult to tell whether the system is working properly.
Vortexing Machines
Vortexing Machines use a combination of counter-rotational magnetic fields, structure-making ions, and nature’s spiral vortex to create hexagonal water. Hexagonal water is liquid crystalline water. Its electrons spin together in a coherent formation, giving it a higher energy state that makes it more easily and quickly absorbed by your body’s cells, and more efficient in many other biological functions.
Ionizers
Water ionizers separate water into two streams: alkaline mineral water and acid mineral water. Water passes over a series of magnetically charged plates and a ceramic separator filament. These systems are being used today in many hospitals and clinics, both for consumption and wound healing in place of drugs.
So by now, you may have arrived at the point that you’re thinking it’s time to find a really good water filter. But which one?
Sink, whole house, carbon filter, multi-stage filters…. Any filter is better than none.
Are you curious to know which unit I recommend?
